PERRYSBURG - A whirlwind of reported threats, financial difficulties and a high-profile resignation are painting a difficult picture for the Perrysburg Heights Community Association.
Tuesday's scheduled meeting of the PHCA board was canceled abruptly due to threats made against members.
"We had to cancel that at the last minute," said Steven Kramer, vice president of the PHCA. He said that the threats were directed at multiple members of the PHCA's eight-member board, "but I really can't comment on the specific details of the threats."
A new meeting date has not yet been set.
The matter was reported to Perrysburg Township Police, Kramer said. Police Chief Mark Hetrick confirmed that there was a request for an extra police patrol during Tuesday's meeting. He said he was unaware of any reports regarding threats made against board members.

Walbridge town pool still dry

WALBRIDGE - The village pool is poised to open next week, weather-permitting.
After Wednesday's council meeting, Mayor Ed Kolanko said work is continuing on installing a new liner in the pool.
"Next week is my best answer," he said about when the pool could open.
Aqua Terrace usually opens around Memorial Day, but the RenoSystem crew ran behind on another project in Kentucky. They had been expected in Walbridge May 13-18. RenoSystem started the installation the first week of June.
"It looks like they are very close (to finishing)," Kolanko said, adding that any rain could set the company back.
Last summer, council voted to buy a $17,134 pool liner from Aquatic Renovation Systems Inc. Council has been working on repairs and improvements to the 60-year-old pool for about a year.
Kolanko said the administration will use the One Call Now village-wide telephone system and the media to let the public know when the pool is open.

Frank Weldon has spent the last year whipping K&G Towing into shape. But what do the K and G stand for?
"The K and G used to be the initials of the previous owner and his wife," Weldon explained. "So when we took over the business, I thought, what could I use these initials for?"
The answer: Kind and Gentle Towing.
"Most people don't expect it," Weldon chuckled. "We are as polite as we can be and we take as much care as we can with the vehicle when we tow it."
The company also stands for courtesy, safety and convenience.
K&G Towing is on call 24 hours a day for flat tire service, jump starts, unlocking services, and to tow your car if you break down. "We tow to Toledo, Findlay, Columbus, Defiance, Dayton-we've towed some farther distances away," Weldon said, as well as to dealerships and car shops in Bowling Green.

The Wood County District Public Library announces an open house for the newly renovated Carter House at 307 N Church St. on Saturday, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
In 2006, Robert and Patricia Maurer and their family donated the house to WCDPL for use by the library for programming and meeting space and for use in other ways to benefit the community. The house has been named honor of Robert Maurer's aunt, Martha Maurer Carter, who taught school for 35 years in Bowling Green and Toledo.
Saturday's open house follows an extensive renovation, which, while not an historic restoration, honors the Carter House's history. Much of the original woodwork has been restored on the first floor of the house. Choices for interior paint colors and plants used in landscaping reflect Victorian tastes.
Almost immediately following the open house, the library will begin to use first floor of the Carter House for library programming. The first floor will become available for use by community groups and private individuals in the fall.

Faced with an anticipated $3 million decrease in state funding on the Bowling Green campus for fiscal year 2014, the trustees approved increases of 2 percent in general fees and tuition for in-state undergraduate students at both the Bowling Green and Firelands campuses.

Idaho town holds out hope for soldier's return

HAILEY, Idaho (AP) — The yellow ribbons, some tattered, some faded, can be seen long before State Highway 75 spills into Hailey, Idaho — home to America's only prisoner of war in its conflict with Afghanistan. They hang from roadside utility poles and in front of homes near the one where Bowe Bergdahl grew up. They adorn virtually every tree and light post on Main Street, where signs in shop windows issue pleas to "Bring Bowe Home."

The ribbons may be the most visible sign that the people of Hailey haven't forgotten the Army sergeant who, four years ago June 30, disappeared from his base in southeastern Afghanistan and was taken captive by the Taliban.

But there are other reminders, too: The Norway maple trees— one for each year Bergdahl has been held — planted in the local park. Even Bergdahl's father, once the town's clean-shaven UPS deliveryman, has grown a long beard, a personal monument to his son's plight, not likely to be shorn until he is freed.

The Afghan war, and the taking of this POW, may have long faded from the minds of most Americans. But for this community in the shadow of Idaho's Sawtooth Mountains, Bowe Bergdahl and his family's fight to free him are "omnipresent," said local Wesley Deklotz. "It's a whole community of people that are keeping him in their thoughts."

Fire threatens Colorado mountain town of 400

SOUTH FORK, Colo. (AP) — A massive wildfire working overtime in hot, windy weather was headed toward a tourist town in Colorado's southwestern mountains on Friday, and fire managers rate the chances of saving it as slim if the fire continues its course.

South Fork, home to about 400 full-time residents, was evacuated as the 47-square-mile acre West Fork Fire moved closer. Wildland firefighters were teaming up with local firefighters to try to save the town, which is surrounded by the Rio Grande National Forest.

Fire spokesman Penny Bertram said officials rate the chances of saving the town of about 400 full-time residents as "low to moderate."

Bertram said the hot, dry and windy weather along with large stands of beetle-killed trees are causing extreme fire behavior. While most fires actively burn four hours a day, this one is burning for 12 hours a day, helping it to mushroom in recent days.

WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has named James Comey to be the new FBI director. Comey was the No. 2 Justice Department official under Republican President George W. Bush.

Obama says Comey is a model of "fierce independence and deep integrity."

Comey gained attention for blocking efforts by the Bush White House to reauthorize a no-warrant wiretapping program in 2004.

If confirmed by the Senate, he would replace Robert Mueller and serve a 10-year tenure.

Obama says Mueller displayed a "steady hand and strong leadership" during his time at the head of the FBI.

GREENVILLE, N.C. (AP) — A man armed with a shotgun wounded one person at a North Carolina law firm Friday before crossing a busy street and entering a Wal-Mart, where he shot three more people before officers subdued him, police said.

Greenville Police Chief Hassan Aden said the suspect was shot by officers at the entrance of the store. He didn't have the conditions of those shot and didn't have a motive. Aden was scheduled to provide additional information at a news conference.

The gunman shot the first person at the Kellum Law Firm on the city's south side and across the street from the Wal-Mart. They said the suspect then crossed five lanes of traffic and entered the store, where he started shooting some more.

Officers located the suspect outside the store and shot him, police said.

Greenville is about 85 miles east of Raleigh.
