The Salvation Army kettle will be out at the Bowling Green State University Wind Symphony concert tonight at 8 in Kobacker Hall of the Moore Musical Arts Center on campus.
Denise Showell, wife of Jeff Showell, dean of the College of Musical Arts, initiated the idea.
She said that when she volunteered with the local Salvation Army she learned of "the scope of the Salvation Army's charitable projects in the community all year round, not just during the holiday season."
Showell went on to staff a kettle at the farmers market in downtown Bowling Green.
She suggested bringing a Salvation Army brass ensemble to perform with the university's Wind Ensemble.
The Wind Symphony, directed by Bruce Moss, will perform Paul Hindemith's "Symphony for Band, Gordon Jacob's "Flag of Stars," Frank Ticheli's "Rest," Joe Spaniola's "Escapade' and a transcription of Jacques Offenbach's "La Belle Helene."
