The athletics director at Bowling Green High School for the last 23 years is retiring.
The 54-year-old also has been the school's dean of students since 2002 when he resigned as the Bobcats' boys basketball coach to accept the dean position.
Vannett is retiring because of changes in the State Teachers Retirement System.
"It's a financial decision, that's the major reason," said Vannett, a 1976 BGHS graduate. "I have to do what's best for my family."
His last day is June 21.
"I'll miss the kids and the people I've worked with," he said. "You couldn't ask for a better group of people who work hard for the kids and the time and effort they put in to be successful. It's always been about what's best for the kids first. The kids have always been great, whether they were involved in athletics or not."
He has 31 years in education, including a combined eight years as a teacher and coach at Ashland Crestview and Riverdale before coming to BGHS.
