Falcon hockey picked fourth
BEMIDJI, Minn. - Bowling Green was fourth in the Western Collegiate Hockey Association media poll announced Tuesday.
The Falcons received 149 points to finish behind Minnesota State 244, Ferris State 218 and Alaska 168.
MSU received 22 of the 25 first-place votes, while Ferris State had two and Bemidji had one.
The Falcons are in their first season in the WCHA after being a charter member of the Central Collegiate Hockey Association. The CCHA was formed in 1971.
The CCHA no longer exists because of college hockey's realignment that takes effect this season.
BG junior forward Ryan Carpenter was named to the media's preseason all-league team. Falcon sophomore defenseman Ralfs Freibergs received votes for the all-league team.
BG goalie Tomas Sholl received votes for the rookie of the year award.
The WCHA coaches poll will be announced today.
