PERRYSBURG - City council discussed the best way to continue funding the street lighting and tree programs Tuesday, weighing whether to continue annual property assessments or draw $270,000 from the general fund.
The group heard a first reading of two ordinances that would continue billing property owners roughly $25 combined per year for the two programs. Council member Todd Grayson suggested that since tax receipts have been on the rise, they could be paid for out of the general fund to save residents a small amount on their taxes.
Mayor Nelson Evans and council member Tom Mackin suggested the funding remain as is, because if city funds drop again, it could be unpopular to reinstate taxes even though the programs are valued by most people.
