PEMBERVILLE - Members of the Portage Center Arbor No. 5224 Gleaners met recently at Janelle's in the village for its annual Community Service Recognition awards presentations.
This year's awards were presented to Dylan Benschoter, Cathy Harrison and Thomas Lewallen, who are the youth adult and senior recipients, respectively.
Benschoter has volunteered many hours for the Elmwood FFA, has participated in Relay for Life and the Mutt Strut for the Wood County Humane Society. He has also packed food baskets for the needy. The 16-year-old has raked and mowed lawns, and cut firewood for the elderly.
His service also includes mentoring young athletes at baseball and wrestling camp. He has also assisted in cleaning up debris following an area tornado.
Harrison is active in the Elmwood and Wayne community.
