The proposed plan also calls for an expanded public/private marina on the river, while narrowing of part of Front Street would allow for sidewalk cafe space at the top of the stairs to blend the two areas. |
The design, which features an ice rink, walking and bicycle paths, a pedestrian bridge to Maumee and many more recreational additions, would open up the waterfront by drawing together the downtown area with Fort Meigs and Orleans, Hood and Riverfront parks with substantial long-term changes to each.
The 103-page master plan, accented with photographs, renderings and other visual elements, will be formally presented at 5:30 p.m. in council chambers.
The project includes total renovations of $10.8 million at Orleans Park, $12 million at Hood Park and $3.1 million at Riverside Park.
Hood Park offers perhaps the best chance to connect the riverfront and downtown areas. Changes would address the steep grade that limits pedestrian access, with two options for stairs to connect with Front Street.
