GRAND RAPIDS — Plans for construction of a new Grand Rapids Township fire station have been delayed.
Due to a change in legislation last year, Grand Rapids Township Trustees will have to re-bid the project. The legislative change required the trustees to alter wording in the bidding documents relating to construction management.
Trustees chair Tracy Punches hopes to start the re-bidding process at the board’s Aug. 12 meeting, but right now the bidding documents are being reviewed by the Wood County Prosecutor’s Office.
Bids had already been received for the project, but because the updated wording related to construction management was not originally included, the bids had to be rejected and the project will be re-bid, Punches said.
“It will be almost like starting all over again,” Punches said.
Township residents, in November, approved a 2.35-mill levy for 20 years to finance the new fire station. The levy was approved with about 60 percent of the vote.
