
He was born to Harry and Dorothy (Wickerham) on November 22, 1933. He grew up as the youngest brother on the family farm outside of Ayersville, Ohio. He was taught to value and develop honesty, tenacity, integrity and humility.
He was confirmed into the Christian Faith at St. Stephen Lutheran Church, Defiance, Ohio, under the direction of Pastor C.H. Matthias on March 30, 1947. Harry had a special relationship with his Grandmother Carrie (Love) Wickerham and enjoyed visits with his uncles and cousins.
He married the love of his life - Nancy Hughes, daughter of Harvey and Grace Hughes, on August 17, 1954 in Defiance, Ohio.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard at New Haven Connecticut from 1952 to 1955. While in the Coast Guard Harry and Nancy met their lifelong friends Leonard and Marie Schneider of Battle Creek, Michigan.
