A senior citizen was ordered to serve four years in prison Tuesday morning for his acts with minor girls.
The 74-year-old Donald Caris, listed with an address at the Best Motel in Bowling Green, previously pleaded guilty to two counts of gross sexual imposition for his actions with two girls, possibly as young as eight and 11. Through a plea agreement a third count was dismissed.
He appeared in front of Wood County Common Pleas Court Judge Robert Pollex.
Caris' attorney Bill Stephenson unsuccessfully argued for only community control sanctions for his client, citing his "complete lack of a prior record."
The attorney said, "He has led a law abiding life and is considered a very hard worker, except for this one black mark."
Stephenson did not try to diminish the offense noting it is a "very serious matter, but is not a mandatory prison sentence."
He characterized his client as very forthcoming and cooperative. He said he had attempted suicide after these charges surfaced, which the attorney characterized as showing he is remorseful.
