Rossford will fight lower valuation claims

ROSSFORD - Treasurer James Rossler vowed at the April 15 Board of Education meeting to fight any moves to have property owners lower their valuations.
The county auditor's office has received 14 challenges to property valuations in the district that could reduce the district's total valuation by $58 million. Rossler wasn't sure how much that may lower the district's revenues.
These appeals have been constant in the district. The number this year is down, though the bite on the district's finances is greater.
That's because two major companies, FedEx and Walgreens distribution center, are among those challenging their valuations.
County Auditor Michael Sibbersen said that the Walgreens tax abatement is in its last year, so this would be the first year the distribution center would be subject to full taxation.
At the meeting Rossler said other treasurers may not be interested in challenging the bids to lower valuation but he took them very seriously. "These are huge assaults on the district's tax base. It's important we take these seriously and fight them as vigorously as possible."
