The public meeting originally scheduled for next week on the possible privatizing of the flight training program at Bowling Green State University has been canceled.
The meeting had been scheduled at the request of aviation students and staff, who asked Faris Mahlas, dean of the BGSU College of Technology, to explain the possible changes to the aviation program.
However, shortly after the meeting was announced in the media Wednesday, the dean canceled the gathering and said instead that he would meet with individual aviation classes to explain the plans to privatize flight training.
"As we reviewed all proposals submitted from the three private vendors last week, we came up with many questions that need to be addressed regarding the process and the transition toward privatization. This has prompted me to postpone the town hall meeting," Mahlas stated. "Once all these questions are answered and we have a clear and solid pathway to privatization or a decision not to privatize, then the town hall meeting becomes more appropriate."
