The Bowling Green State University club women's bowling team has hit its stride by capturing the season-ending American Heartland conference tournament in Monroe, Mich.
In addition the women's and men's team recently learned they have a combined nine Academic All-Americans on the rosters.
The tournament win was the first championship for the team since it was revived last season.
The Falcons marched through the 16-team event undefeated. In the Baker system, bowlers do not bowl individual games, but rather bowlers combine their efforts with each of five bowlers to bowl two frames in each game.
Head coach Kevin Taber said, "These kids have worked hard during the year to achieve this."
At the Monroe event, the Falcons defeated Notre Dame 3-0, Wright State 3-2, Ursuline College, 3-0, and Wright State (Red) 3-2. The latter team emerged out of the loser's bracket, only again to lose to the Falcons in the championship match, 3-0. The game scores in the title match were 187-143, 171-152 and183-152.
Taber said the lane conditions were very demanding for the tournament.
