PERRYSBURG - "Soup's on" at Perrysburg High School again.
USDA Food and Nutrition Administrator Audrey Rowe returned to the school Wednesday after making good on her promise to return popular soup options to the school lunch menu.
Rowe visited the school last September to discuss the new federal school meal nutrition standards, which didn't allow soup as an offering at schools, in favor of less meat and more whole grains, among other changes.
At that time, a group of girls spoke to Rowe and asked for soup to return. The soups are made on-site from scratch.
Perrysburg wasn't alone in its displeasure with the new guidelines.
"We were hearing it from a lot of schools" regarding certain foods could no longer be served, said Rowe, who came to Perrysburg after a visit to schools in Evanston, Ill.
