Downtown BG fire claims a life

(Updated 8:12 a.m. 4-5) One man has died as the result of an early morning fire in a downtown Bowling Green apartment. SEE MORE PHOTOS

The Bowling Green Fire Division confirmed the fatality just after 8 this morning.

The fire was reported about 1 a.m. in the 100 block of South Main Street.

EMS personnel were performing CPR on the individual, who was brought downstairs on a backboard about 1:45 a.m. There are several apartments on the second floor of the building in the middle of the block on the east side of the street.

BG called for assistance from Mid-County Ambulance and Central Joint Fire District.

South Main Street was blocked to traffic between Wooster and Clough streets while fire and ambulance equipment was set up in the street.
