After serving one year of her four-year prison sentence, the woman convicted of setting fire to her Perrysburg apartment and others was granted judicial release Monday afternoon.
Chelsea Smothers, now 21, appeared in her jail-issued uniform on Monday with her attorney, Scott Hicks.
Smothers pleaded guilty to two counts of arson in regard to the fires she set at her Lake Vue apartment complex in February 2011. She was sentenced by Judge Reeve Kelsey in March 2012.
Hicks spoke first telling the judge, "She has done a lot of positive things with her time in custody."
In requesting the early release, Hicks first listed many of the self-help and educational courses she has pursued while in custody. He concluded that his client "used this time as constructively as any client I've ever had."
"I've had a lot of time to thing about what I have done and the way I was living my life," Smothers said when given her chance to address the court. "I feel great remorse and I want to make amends. I want to move forward with my life."
