Rossford will buy forfeited property

ROSSFORD - City Council Tuesday approved a move by the city to acquire three vacant lots in the 200 block of Osborne Street that have been forfeited because of tax delinquency.
The city had 10 days to lay its claim. If either the city or school district doesn't claim the property then the state would take them over. Taxes of $4,000 are owed on the property, and the city would be liable to pay that. The property is assessed at $14,000.
City Administrator Ed Ciecka said that if the state took over the property, the city's would be unable to enforce its nuisance property codes.
The lots are in the same neighborhood where the city and school district acquired two other lots in 2011, and a Habitat Humanity home was built on one of the lots a year ago.
