GRAND RAPIDS - The village is moving forward with plans to refurbish its canal.
Council, on Monday, approved an estimated cost of $42,751 to be put toward the first phase of stone replacement on the south side of the canal near Blue Bell Island.
In the first phase of the project, old rocks and blocks will be removed and a new 110-foot concrete retaining wall will be installed.
A decision on the second phase of the project, on the north side of the canal, will be made once the canal is drained.
Also at the meeting, council members heard that Dollar General is looking to build a store on Wapakoneta Road.
