Backers of the charter amendment say it would ban hydraulic fracturing in the city. The issue will be on the Nov. 5 ballot.
Chamber President Bruce Stevens said the board spent about 30 minutes in executive session discussing the amendment. He said upon return to open session the directors voted unanimously to approve the recommendation, with one director abstaining. The chamber has 27 directors, with 22 in attendance.
Stevens said in the discussion it was agreed that everyone wants clean air and water "But the city charter is not meant for political statements. There is also no mention of fracking."
