Bowling Green State University’s volleyball team rallied from a 2-0 deficit to upset BYU, 3-2 in the final game of the Hampton Inn Invitational Saturday night at the Stroh Center.
BYU took the first two sets, 25-20 and 25-22 as Bowling Green was competitive, but could not close out the Cougars.
With stronger play at the net both offensively and defensively the Falcons took the final three sets, 25-22, 25-21, 15-12.
It’s BG’s first-ever win over a ranked opponent. BYU was ranked No. 13 in the nation in the preseason coaches poll.
‘‘There were times in the first two sets, that it wasn’t going our way. It’s great that we came back against a really great team,’’ said BG senior Lindsey Butterfield said,
‘‘We are a super aggressive team. I don’t think we showed that in the first two sets. We would be aggressive here and there, but this is how we play everyday in the gym,’’ Butterfield continued. ‘‘We had a lot of confidence at the end and that allows you to be more aggressive.’’
