TOLEDO - A man who owned seven IHOP restaurants, including one in Perrysburg Township, and who is facing more than 50 federal charges, is seeking a new trial date in U.S. District Court.
According to court documents filed Thursday, Tarek "Terry" Elkafrawi, who has a home in Middleton Township, is seeking to have his court date continued. Currently, his trial is set for Sept. 30 at U.S. District Court in Toledo in the courtroom of Judge David A. Katz.
Elkafrawi and 17 other people were indicted this spring on a string of offenses, including money laundering, harboring undocumented workers, identity theft and insurance fraud involving the restaurants. Over $3 million was reportedly diverted as part of the schemes.
