NORTHWOOD - A Georgia food company's acquisition of the city's former Hostess plant and retail outlet was finalized last week.
Flowers Foods Inc., of Thomasville, Ga., announced plans in February to purchase many of Hostess' assets, including 20 bakeries, 36 depots and five brands including Wonder Bread, for $355 million.
Officials said the company plans to use the assets to move its products into new markets; however, an online document states it will reintroduce its new brands through production at its existing bakeries rather than those recently acquired.
