Bruce Moritz was hired at Tuesday's meeting as the full-time Lake Township fire chief, pending a background check.
Moritz has been a fire chief for over 20 years, first with the Clay-Genoa Fire District from 1988 to 2000, then with the Allen-Clay Joint Fire District. He will be paid between $55,000 and $60,000 a year, with exact salary and benefits announced at the Sept. 3 meeting. Moritz is expected to start the next day.
"There comes a point in your career, when you reach a plateau," he said. "I'm ready for a new challenge."
The Allen-Clay department has 83 firefighters-EMTs and Lake Township has 63, Moritz said. His current district is about 50 square miles.
