New lawsuits filed over 2011 tainted cantaloupe

DENVER (AP) — An attorney has filed dozens of new lawsuits for victims of contaminated cantaloupe from southern Colorado two years ago.

The farm that produced the melons that sickened 147 people in 28 states has gone bankrupt. Attorney Bill Marler filed some 32 lawsuits Wednesday against retailers that sold the melons.

Lawsuits were filed against Wal-Mart, King Soopers, City Market and other grocery stores. Most of the lawsuits were filed in Colorado, but suits are also pending or soon to be filed in 11 other states.

Marler, of Seattle, has represented victims of foodborne illness for about 20 years.
