The county board of developmental disabilities, which oversees Wood Lane, rescinded its request last week for a 3.5-mill levy, opting for a reduced 2.95 mills over five years. If approved, the new levy, which the organization insists is critical to continuing operations, will generate $8,068,117 per year, roughly $1.5 million per year less than the first proposal.
The nonprofit is currently supported by six continuing levies totaling 6.7 mills, though collections have been reduced to 4.7 mills.
Commissioner Joel Kuhlman said Wood Lane representatives made their case for the need for additional funds, which will be up to county residents to approve.
