Wood County Commissioners announced they will fund engineering and design for up to 10 bridge projects in an effort to use the money to the benefit of all county residents. The board most recently received a $400,000 quarterly payment, Commissioner Jim Carter said.
The county engineer’s office is responsible for maintaining an estimated 440 bridges in Wood County and evaluating which ones need repair most.
Carter said infrastructure was a priority for the funds, and many of the county’s bridges were constructed long before modern traffic could be predicted, leaving them inadequate for truck travel. Wood County also has roughly 3,000 miles of ditches, all of which require bridges to cross, he explained.
