MILLBURY - Lake School District teachers have a little bit more money in their pockets, and a longer school day.
The Lake Education Association and Lake Board of Education agreed to a three-year contract on Thursday, with raises and a 15-minute addition to the school day. It is effective Sept. 1.
Board president Tim Krugh said the salary increases will be 2.75 percent this year, 2.25 percent in 2014 and 1.95 percent in 2015.
He said the 89 Lake teachers have not had a base increase in three years, and did not have a step increase last year. The new raises, Krugh said, average 1.15 percent over the last three years, and the next three years.
"The teachers have done their part," he said.
Lake went through a difficult financial situation last year, before voters approved a 6.75-mill levy. Just before the levy was approved in August, the teachers agreed to a wage freeze, no step raises and an increase in what they pay for benefits. That one-year agreement saved the district $177,000.
