The Bowling Green Board of Education Tuesday at a special meeting approved the fee schedule for pay to participate for next fall.
The vote was unanimous with Paul Walker absent.
The fee schedule which goes into effect with the new school year is as follows:
• High school students will pay $100 for first sport, $75 for second and $50 for third. Cheerleaders will pay $50 per season.
• Middle school students will pay $50 for each sport.
• High school students participating in co-curricular activities in which there is a paid advisor will pay $25 per season, year or performance. These include quiz bowl, student activities board and drama.
• High school students participating in co-curricular activities that do not have a paid advisor or for which a grade is assigned may be required to pay a transportation fee, based on the number of buses needed, the number of trips and the distance. This would include marching band, FFA and Model UN.
• The maximum amount per immediate family for all activities in high and middle school would be $350.
Students eligible for free for reduced lunch prices will get discounts.
Superintendent Ann McVey said the district would also take into consideration “extenuating circumstances.”
Board Member Ellen Scholl noted that students who quit a sport will not get a refund but those whose season ends with an injury would.
Board Member Lee Hakel noted the district’s policy states no student would be denied participation for financial reasons.
Also at the meeting, the board hired Gary Keller, now assistant principal at middle school, to be middle school principal, and hired high school math teacher Eric Radabaugh as the new middle school assistant principal. Radabaugh is a 2004 graduate of Bowling Green High School.
