KANSAS - Jon Detwiler was named as the new superintendent of the Lakota Local Schools at a special meeting this morning.
Detwiler has been the principal of McPherson Middle School in Clyde for the last seven years. He previously served in a similar role in the Fremont City Schools.
The Lakota board unanimously approved hiring Detwiler, who will assume the reins of the district from David Danhoff, whose resignation was accepted by the board on July 8.
Chris Chalfin, president of the board, said as Danhoff had only been employed for one year, the board had completed an extensive search process last year and did not feel they needed to repeat that process.
"Last year we had narrowed down our choices to three highly qualified candidates," Chalfin said. "We were prepared to offer the position to Detwiler at that time if Danhoff had not taken the job."
The president thus said as far as the board was concerned, "Jon was our guy. Why go through another search when we knew we wanted to go after Jon?"
