MILLBURY - Parts of the Lake Township Cemetery are buried under weeds, a resident complained at Tuesday's meeting.
"Our cemetery always looks so beautiful," said Marge Willman, but she heard some people complaining about the condition of it at the Memorial Day service, which is held annually at the cemetery.
Willman decided to drive around the cemetery, which is located off Union Street east of Walbridge. She concluded it looked terrible, with high weeds choking some of the headstones.
"I do not understand giving … some more money or hiring the guys back (to work at the cemetery). Or if someone wants to volunteer to help," Willman said.
Trustee Ron Sims said the township cannot have volunteers at the cemetery because of liability, and the risks of them running the equipment and getting injured. He said Willman's description of the cemetery was accurate.
