MILLBURY - Defining what a noxious weed is, and deciding what to do with the properties that are littered with them, is a dilemma for the Lake Township Trustees.
At last week's meeting, the trustees started reviewing its policy on controlling run-down yards in the township. Currently, the zoning inspector sends a letter asking the property owner to mow. Sometimes, it can get as far as a citation in Perrysburg Municipal Court.
What the letter lacks is "teeth" to enforce anything, said zoning inspector Dave Miesmer.
A new policy, with fines and tax assessments behind it, could be effective.
"It would enable me to speak from a point of authority," Miesmer said.
