The board approved the purchase, and awarded a bid, for relocation of the units to Pac Van Inc. in the amount of $203,000.
The board began discussing the acquisition earlier this year, as the student population in the Perrysburg school district continues to balloon. There are more than 4,878 students this year, a number which grows by more than 70 students annually. The portable units will include two classrooms each, and are to be installed and ready by the time school resumes in August.
The units, two for Fort Meigs and three for Frank, are expected to alleviate the classroom space needs for the next school year. More than 15 portable classrooms are already in use across the district.
The units, coming from the Sylvania school district, must also have other necessary alterations and improvements done, including landscaping. The total cost of the project is expected to top $620,000; Sylvania originally paid $231,000 for the units when they were first purchased in 2011.
