On Wednesday the Eagles went from being three outs away from a berth in the Division III softball regional final, to having to scrap to score a run in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Eastwood took a 2-0 lead into the top of the seventh inning of its regional semifinal against Fairview at Liberty Center High School.
Fairview rallied to tie the score, but the Eagles scored a run with two outs in the bottom of the seventh to secure the 3-2 victory. It will be the first regional final appearance for Eastwood’s softball team.
‘‘We’ve had that a little bit all year,’’ Eastwood head coach Joe Wyant said about the ups and downs of the seventh inning. ‘‘Our players are pretty resilient. They’ve battled all year.’’
The Eagles, 28-3, play Saturday in Ashland’s Brookside Park against the winner of Thursday’s Magnolia Sandy Valley-Milan Edison game. Game time is noon Saturday.
