Wood County will soon have its own agricultural hall of fame.
Tom Moser of AgCredit made the proposal at the May meeting of the Wood Country Agricultural Society. The Senior Fair Board, as it is better known, approved the idea and gave the go-ahead to create the new honor at Thursday's meeting.
As it is very early in the process, many of the details have to be ironed out, however, as Moser proposed it there will be a committee consisting of members from AgCredit, the fair board, the county commissioners, and possibly other entities to select those to be honored.
"This would be a great way to recognize people in agriculture," Moser said.
He stressed though there would be numerous people who deserve the honor, it was the plan that only one or two would be chosen each year. He said his company would provide individual plaques for those being honored, or for the family of any deceased honoree, as well as a master plaque which would be displayed at the fairgrounds, possibly in what is called the Champion Barn. Large pictures of those being honored could also be displayed around the fairgrounds on various barns or other buildings.
