TIFFIN — Bowling Green’s softball team had the pitching and defense working Saturday, but the timely hits never came.
The Bobcats (6-21) lost 2-0 to Northern Lakes League rival Anthony Wayne in the Division I district final at Tiffin University’s Paradiso Athletic Complex.
BG’s Hanna Williford turned in a solid performance. She scattered six hits, struck out four and walked none. Her counterpart, freshman pitcher Kaitlyn Ray had 11 strikeouts, walked two and gave up only four hits.
“We knew coming in we had an opportunity to win, if we played our best game,” BG coach Jim Cress said. “We just needed to get a couple of timely hits and we weren’t able to do that.”
