There was no letdown by the Elmwood Royals.
One day after winning the Northern Buckeye Conference championship, the Royals were back on the diamond Tuesday in a Division III district semifinal softball game against Gibsonburg at Bowling Green High School.
Behind the strong pitching of sophomore Miranda Benschoter, Elmwood posted a 7-0 shutout to advance to the district championship game Saturday at noon at BGHS. The Royals face the winner of Wednesday’s Eastwood-Evergreen game.
‘‘We were ready to play. We knew they would be coming at us because we beat them earlier this season,’’ Elmwood senior Brittany George said.
George said that head coach Matt Hoiles did not say anything about a possible letdown and that the seniors and captains made sure everything was upbeat before the game.
