Why did the water tower cross the road?
Apparently to preserve the value of the land in the industrial park where the tower was to be located.
Bowling Green's Board of Public Utilities Monday night spent an hour in executive session and decided to ask city council to buy about an acre of land on the south side of Newton Road to build a water tower. Until Monday night the 1.5 million gallon tower was to be built on the north side of Newton Road in city-owned Bellard Business Park. The vote was 4-0, with Bill Culbertson absent.
"The feeling was that building the tower in that location would devalue the 7.5 acres adjacent to it in Bellard Business Park," Director of Utilities Brian O'Connell said after the BPU adjourned.
If council approves, the city would pay Rick VanVorhis $53,190 for the .951-acre parcel. The cost includes a two-year construction easement. The site is vacant land between Bee Gee Rental and Sales and Organ Collision.
