“It’s certainly a number that is going to be a challenge to contend with as we move forward,” said Superintendent Tom Hosler in an interview this morning.
The five units, coming from Sylvania Schools and containing two classrooms each, would be installed at Frank and Fort Meigs elementaries. The cost to purchase and install those units originally in 2011 in Sylvania had been $231,000. However, the cost to purchase, move, and install the units in Perrysburg would be an estimated $621,230, including a 10 percent contingency on the units.
This is in contrast to the cost of new units, which would top $1 million.
Hosler was careful to point out that the $231,000 figure was never a solid number — simply an amount based on Sylvania’s original costs that would serve as a minimum expected cost to the district.
“So we knew there would be kind of a range,” he said.
